Claiborne Makes Cuts, Tim & Isaac Continue Revamp

The news lately seems to be littered with pink slips and today is no different …

Clothing giant, Liz Claiborne, will eliminate about 725 jobs, or 8 percent of its U.S. work force.  The job cuts will occur at all levels and are set to be finished by the end of the first quarter.

Of course the economy is to blame.

Not sure if the cuts affect all lines at Claiborne.  The company encompasses several brands like Juicy Couture, Liz & Co, Kate Spade, Lucky Brand Jeans as well as holds the license for DKNY Jeans& DKNY Active Brands.

If people losing their job wasn’t bad enough, I am about to hyperventilate over Tim Gunn & Isaac Mizarahi’s future with the company respectively serving as Chief Creative Officer and Creative Director.  Both have been recently additions to Claiborne in an effort to revamp its image.

Words of wisdom: MAKE IT WORK!

Target To Cut Jobs

Reuters is reporting retail giant Target, will be cutting jobs after it’s 5th consecutive drop in quarterly profits.

Target was my last resort, so if I don’t get a job soon, I’m going to have to move back with the parents! THE HORROR!

UPDATE: According to WWD, the company is cutting 600 jobs at its headquarters in Minneapolis and St. Paul, not filling 400 open positions, and closing its Little Rock distribution center, which employs 500 people.

Safilo’s Sunglasses Future Tinted with Drama

You may not be aware of the sunglasses company Safilo, but chances are you probably see them everyday … in fact you probably see through them!

The Italian company is a sunglasses manufacturer and it makes shades for everyone:  Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Dior, Armani, & Juicy are just a few big names in their arena. And just as easily as they’ve lined up their roster of clientele, they’ve also racked up a mountain of debt, according to WWD, to the tune of $753.8 million dollars!

The company is looking for a financial bailout, but until a private firm comes up with the money, the Italian government is sponsoring a temporary shutdown of 4 of their factories.

In dire times like these we are all in need of a pair of rose-colored lenses.

Publication Termination: Teen Magazine

Memoires …
Turning pages in my mind
Misty advice column memories
Of the way teenage magazines were ….

What happen to all the teenagers?!  What are they reading these days?! And more importantly: Where are they getting their kissing advice!?

News came from WWD that another Hearst Publication, Teen Magazine and TeenMag.com, is folding in a market of what was once saturated by magazines geared towards the youth generation.  Teen Magazine will be joining other young minded glossies such as Elle Girl, CosmoGIRL, and Teen People in the cemetery plot of the printed publication biz.

This cannot be good as young 12- and 13-year-olds are only destined to get love advice from the slutty girl in school.  Good luck bambinas!
