Beyonce: Baby’s Got Back & Vogue Cover
Beyoncé lands the April 2009 cover of American Vogue. I believe she is only the 2nd African-American Singer to claim the honor, so big ups for B! Photographed for the annual Shape Issue, the tagline reads, “Real Women Have Curves Beyoncé at Her Best.”
I don’t want to detract from the huge compliment it is to be featured on the cover of the fashion bible itself, but is it just me, or is that a backhanded compliment? Because if these are the most curves we’ve seen Beyoncé with, isn’t that like calling her fat?! Or is that like saying she was fat before the photo shoot? Because she wasn’t at her best before - clearly the cover says so! I mean is this really the pinacle of Beyoncé’s bootylicious body?
Take heed Vogue editoral staff: A wise man once said, “L.A. face with an Oakland booty!” Anna, toss away your daily portions of some sugar snap peas & carrots. Dig into a helping of carbs & celebrate, “Baby’s got back!”
